Refuse Ordinary S3E40: Misconceptions About "Give Your Life Away

Welcome to another episode of Refuse Ordinary: Season 3! This season we're joining in on one of the many classes taught to level 1-4 of the full time School of Transformation.

 

In this episode, we will be sitting in on a class called "Misconceptions About 'Give Your Life Away'", taught by Nathan Taylor. Giving your life away for Jesus, as introduced to the disciples, would have meant something very different than it has come to mean in today's culture, where it was literally a life or death situation. Sadly, it's been cheapend to things such as volunteering and tithing, when it was really founded on an exchange of your life into Jesus' hands. Giving your life away starts with asking Jesus, "What do You want me to do today?" What's the need that is crossing your path today?

Refuse Ordinary S3E41: How to Trust A God That You Don't Fully Understand

Welcome to another episode of Refuse Ordinary: Season 3! This season we're joining in on one of the many classes taught to levels 1-4 of the full time School of Transformation.

In this episode, we will be sitting in on a class called "How to Trust A God That You Don't Fully Understand", taught by Pastor Steve Orsillo. The way to understanding God is by trusting Him—trust comes before understanding and we trust God even when we don't understand by deciding to trust Him. Then, the revelation of who He says He is comes and the understanding with it. Understanding does not come to make us trust. Trust comes to make us understand. Where do we need to trust Jesus in our lives today?

Refuse Ordinary S3E42: Not My Will But Yours

Welcome to another episode of Refuse Ordinary: Season 3! This season we're joining in on one of the many classes taught to levels 1-4 of the full time School of Transformation.

In this episode, we will be sitting in on a class called "Not My Will But Yours", taught by Pastor Ryan Kelly. We look into things we choose to do, have to do and want to do. It's easy to do the things we want to do, but what about things that we are perhaps not as passionate about? We get to choose to love others and meet the needs in front of us, just as Jesus chose to lay His life down for us. It's about following Jesus and His will for us, which is to serve those He wants us to serve. Our will and desires are not always bad, but we want to be aligned to God's will for us and be submitted to His calling for our lives.

In this episode, we will be sitting in on a class called "Truth and Love Definitive In the Person of Jesus", taught by Pastor Maria McWhorter. Our experiences and feelings have fashioned how we understand truth. We don't usually question our thoughts and emotions, why we think or feel a certain way, and whether it's true. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. When our emotions war against God's truth, we have a choice in believing His truth including Jesus' definition of love.

In this episode, we will be sitting in on a class called "Barriers to Spiritual Growth", taught by Pastor Stefanie Mumby. The greatest barrier to spiritual growth is self-righteousness. We can’t hold on to both our own righteousness and the righteousness Jesus offers — it’s one or the other. Are we relying on our own strength, or are we receiving what He’s already provided? The real barrier is our tendency to stay in control, to depend on ourselves instead of leaning fully on Jesus. So here’s the question: what’s pulling you away from going to Him?

Unfortunately, many of us tend to lean toward unhealthy control, often shaped by experiences in our childhood. Refuse Ordinary S3E48: Why We Need Jesus

Welcome to another episode of Refuse Ordinary: Season 3! This season we're joining in on one of the many classes taught to levels 1-4 of the full time School of Transformation.

 

In this episode, we will be sitting in on a class called "Why We Need Jesus", taught by Luke Pollock. In a culture that prizes self-reliance, needing someone is often seen as a weakness. But our very abilities, strength, and identity come from our Creator. Without Him, we have nothing and independence is an illusion. Like a child who fully depends on a parent, we too must learn to depend on Jesus. Admitting our need for Him isn't weakness, it's the beginning growth and maturity.
